ORDINANCES

      TO:  All City Residents

      FROM:  David Brinker

      SUBJECT: Nuisances

On August 14, 2012 the Watervliet City Commission approved a resolution to change and update our existing nuisance ordinance.  These changes will allow the city to be more pro-active in addressing nuisance violations within our city. Our city police officers will begin addressing ordinance violations on September 12, 2012. The first three areas we will be looking at are the following: ABANDONED VEHICLES/SEC. 14-38, PREMISES KEPT CLEAN/SEC. 14-39 AND HABITABLE CONDITION/SEC. 14-46.

I’d like to extend my thanks to the majority of residents for whom these issues will not be a problem. The commission’s intent is to work on the areas of the city that seem to fall into further states of disrepairs every year.  I would encourage all residents to support in helping thecommission obtain the goal set forth here.  Attached is a copy of the REVISED ordinance.

       Sincerely

TO:  All Owners of Watervliet City Rental Properties

        FROM:  Dave Brinker

        SUBJECT: Quarterly Water Bills

On November 27th, the Watervliet City Commission approved Resolution No. 20-2012 to change and update the City’s water billing Ordinance section 54-33 & 54-35. The major change to the ordinance is stated below:

“All water bills are the responsibility of the property owner. All water bills will be sent/mailed to the property owner for payment. Tenants of rental properties may request a copy of the properties water bill from the City Clerks Office, but copies will not be mailed directly to them.

The City has already started the process of removing renter’s names from the water accounts billing system. A quick call to City Hall just to verify the mailing address we have on file for you would be encouraged.  It could save penalties and shut-off fees if payment due dates are missed because of incorrect billing addresses. DHS payments will be credited to accounts only when the award letter has been received at the City Hall. DHS payments received after the scheduled shut off notice date will be credited to the next quarterly billing. Cash will not be refunded.  Many thanks to the property owners who were already following these procedures before we enacted the new ordinance changes.  Attached is a copy of the complete Ordinance for your review.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at City Hall.

        Sincerely

        David Brinker
